One of the most interesting films that stood out in both its nomination and win was Parasite, winning this year’s award for Original Screenplay. The greatest fact about this film is that it is the first film produced in a foreign language to win an American film award. This screenplay was created by Bong Joon Ho and Han Jin Won, being the first nomination for Won and the first win for Ho. It was incredible to see this American win for a film that held so much more of an internationally historical reference and value, especially when beating out some nominees that show much about American traditions.

Interestingly enough, for this win, these skilled creators overcame American films like 1917, a winner in two other categories, and experienced past film leaders like Quentin Terentino with his film Once Upon a Time…In Hollywood. While Parasite was able to present a life-like image of greed, class discrimination and a mysterious interloper threaten the newly formed symbiotic relationship between the wealthy Park family and the destitute Kim clan.

Even more than winners and films of specific events and movie releases over the past year, the Oscars memorialized the lives of famous film professionals that were lost over the past year as well. So many of these beloved and memorable individuals have every reason to be remembered for the works they completed and their artful contributions to the film industry throughout their lives. Also, these various individuals provided benefits to the community during their careers, even much more than just releasing well-known films to the public. In honor of all these past actors, producers, and others, Billie Eilish performed the song “Yesterday” as a touching tribute.

With everything to see about the awards being available online, it is amazing to see how all of these actors, actresses, producers, writers, and others come together annually to recognize each other’s accomplishments over the past year. There were some interesting award acceptance speeches, such as Joaquin Phoenix in response to his win for Joker, along with some additional live performances. An interesting view was the sight of Eminem performing his own award-winning song, “Lose Yourself,” from his own film so many years ago, 8 Mile.

It seems like everything about these award ceremonies helps prove that these movies and everyone involved in their creation live on forever. The entire film industry continues to remember and honor those who have passed on, especially if they provided the world with incredible art on the screen. Nominated, winning, or no awards at all, shows like The Oscars prove the memory that comes of all those who work in the film industry to provide for our entertainment in the everyday world.
